5 things to pray for the church

The theologian Karl Barth once said, “To be a Christian and to pray mean the same thing,” meaning that prayer is “a necessity, as breathing is necessary to life.” However, we often don’t find prayer natural and we struggle in what to pray for. Sometimes our conversations with God become a shopping list of needs, and whilst God wants us to bring our needs to Him, He wants us to commit all other aspects of life to Him too! Included in this is how we should pray for the church.

Do we understand what the church is for and how we should seek to follow God’s calling for us as a spiritual family? Our series is going to think about God’s purpose for the church and how we can pray that we would live as he desires. This 7 week series is based on the first section of a book called ‘5 Things to Pray for your Church’ by Rachel Jones.

There are lots of prayer pointers for the church in there and we’re going to focus on these in the small groups. Having completed the 7 weeks, you may be motivated and inspired to continue to pray for our church in the other ways the book suggests!
